'Til We Meet Again

It has been a weekend of goodbyes. We began by spending time with G.G. (Josh's great-grandpa) at the Hospice house on Saturday morning. It has been difficult watching him suffer over the last two weeks. It is a stark reminder that God did not make us to die. Even at 93, dying does not seem natural. As the Bible tells us, it isn't.

After being with him for about two hours, we said our farewells and went to support Josh's catcher Quaid at his game: Mountain Point v. Chandler. Unfortunately, Quaid didn't play, but it was fun to go out and cheer for his team. The Smith clan was able to come and cheer too. Quaid had quite a fan section. It was McKenzie's first game of the season.

The phone call came shortly after the game. G.G. wasn't suffering anymore. He passed away at 3:35 pm. In a way, it a relief to know that he is no longer in pain, but we all miss him terribly and are dealing with the reality that he won't come shuffling in in his Birkenstocks with his cane next Sunday for dinner.

Losing a loved one reminds me to love more on the ones I have. To tell them I love them, give them hugs, and spend time with them. Today is all I have. I don't know what tomorrow holds. Lord, show me how to love the dear family you have given me.

We were blessed to spend time with both our families this weekend: eating, laughing, talking, and packing. It is hard to say goodbye, but we are looking forward to seeing whoever can come visit.

And now, it is time to sleep for a few hours before hitting the road at 5 am. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel to Florida and as Josh dives in to Spring Training. Pray that the Lord gives him efficiency in his work, health, and protection from injury. We are excited to see what He has in store for us.
